Dr Bret Myers Professor of Data Analytics at Villanova and consultant to the professional soccer team the Columbus Crew joins me this week to discuss how big data is transforming the world in general and athletics in particular. Bret has served as a University professor since 2006 teaching courses in analytics and operations management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As of 2020, he was appointed Faculty Academic Director of Sports Initiatives at Villanova School of Business. His area of research is in the use of analytics to improve decision processes for sports businesses, both in the delivery of a product on the field, and the management of operations to meet other strategic objectives. He is active in publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals, attending and presenting at sports analytics related conferences, and consulting with professional organizations. Bret’s past consulting roles were with the Philadelphia Union (2013), and Toronto FC (2014-2019), and now he has taken on a role with Columbus Crew SC as of June 2019.
