We expect to support over 2,000 high-quality construction and permanent jobs in Cedar Rapids. We offer internship programs for undergrads, transitioning military members and programs to learn more about data centers.

A data center is a facility that stores and manages large amounts of digital data. Data centers are essential for businesses, governments and organizations that rely on technology to operate and communicate. You access a data center whenever you use your cell phone, a credit card, the cloud or any online activity.
This data center campus marks the beginning of a transformative community partnership and the largest economic development in the city’s history. With a planned $10 billion investment, the QTS Cedar Rapids data center campus represents a long-term commitment to innovation, infrastructure and regional growth.
Data centers bring large investments to the area through tax revenues, as well as construction, manufacturing and technology jobs. In Cedar Rapids, these tax revenues, at the direction of local taxing jurisdictions, will generally go towards addressing pressing issues for community members, including public works, community development programs, and education. The presence of data centers in the area will also help attract other companies to Cedar Rapids and create greater job opportunities.
The campus will span 612 acres with up to seven buildings in Big Cedar Industrial Center and is expected to support over 2,000 high-quality construction and permanent jobs.
We are committed to protecting the communities we partner with. QTS utilizes a water-free cooling system that cools our data centers without consuming water and saves more than 48 million gallons of water annually per data center.
Because we have eliminated the need for water consumption, our data center will not impact the area’s rivers, lakes or other water resources.
The installed dewatering sumps are standard, temporary sumps necessary to support sanitary sewer installation. These are not deep wells and do not connect to the city’s aquifer, therefore do not have any impact on the municipal water supply. At no point are all sumps operating simultaneously, and each is decommissioned once work in that area is complete. We are in full compliance with all applicable regulations and continue to work closely with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Linn County Public Health Department.
