Employee Spotlight: Karen DiMaggio, Director, Hyperscale Projects

QTS location: Ashburn, VA
Time with QTS: 1 year in February 2024

What does a day in your position look like?

Every day looks a little different. Some days are back-to-back meetings to stay up-to-speed on the activity of our internal teams; campus development progress, site selection work, tax incentives enrollment and more. Other days involve deep diving into the details of a process to conduct gap analysis and find opportunities to be faster or more efficient. Every day involves collaborative partnership with teams across the organization.

What is your favorite part of working for QTS?

Hands down, it’s the people. I believe that it is critical to enjoy not just the work that you do, but who you work on it with. I genuinely enjoy the people that I get to work with and around every day. We joke, we share stories, we commiserate, and we support each other professionally and personally.

What are some of your favorite community impact events?

Is it cheating to say all of them? If I must pick, I will say that the Thanksgiving Bag event in ASH was insanely efficient and fun and the ASH Core Giving Day event to organize donations at Loudoun County Hunger Relief was so much fun as well. I love the hands-on activities that we participate in. Obviously monetary donations are critical for these agencies, but when we roll up our sleeves and go do physical work it provides a sense of connection to the community that I think makes us all a little better.

What passions do you have inside and outside of the office?

Outside of the office: Dogs. My kids. Motorcycles. Food, friends and family. Not necessarily in that order.

Inside the office: Mentorship. Efficient business operations. Bringing fun to work.

What are your favorite holiday traditions?

My kids are grown now, and I am starting a whole new set of traditions! My favorite so far is to host a FriendsgivingMasEve event where all my friends and family come gather to eat, be merry and roast each other. My second favorite is a gingerbread house decorating contest where I supply the houses, frosting, and candy and we all build the same house but decorate as we see fit and then we have Instagram vote to decide the winner. There are prizes, but more than that, there are bragging rights for a full year until the next event.
