Title: VP, Corporate Security
QTS Location: Suwanee, GA
Years with QTS: 1year 8 months
What does a day in your position look like?
There is nothing typical about a day in the life of Security! Normally, whatever plans I have for the day, are usually turned upside down by an event or incident that occurs at a moment’s notice. However, I spend a great portion of each day monitoring our Physical Security posture across the enterprise, engaging with Federal, State, and Local authorities for any threat intelligence, and working internally with our cyber group to grow our Converged Security posture.
What is your favorite part of working for QTS?
The people! “Powered by People” is not just a motto at QTS, but a day in and day out reality. Also, the ability to say, “IN GOD THIS COMPANY TRUSTS!”
What passions do you have inside and outside of the office?
Inside the office, my passions include learning as much as I can about the company, updating and enhancing security procedures, and expanding our security relationships with other Data Center companies, as well as Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies and first responders.
My passions outside the office include spending as much time as I can with my family and attending sporting events (especially those my kids are participating in!).
What tips would you give someone on cybersecurity and staying safe as they use the web for daily things like social media, online shopping, etc.?
- Be smart and not gullible.
- If things seem too good to be true, they probably are. Don’t be afraid to say, “NO THANK YOU!” to any unsolicited emails, texts, or phone calls.
- Do not share more information online than you want in the hands of Foreign Intelligence Agencies.
- Use strong passwords, change them as often as possible, and verify any unsolicited outreach.
What does a perfect day outside of the office look like for you?
Spending time with my family, preferably outdoors, and then cooking a great dinner and getting to watch the Bills beat the Chiefs!
