Meet the Team: Q&A with EVP, Development, Laney Marinich

  1. How has QTS’ growth effected the team and how you operate?

Well to start, there are lots more data centers to build! And that means ‘scaling up’ the team in every way: hiring new QTSers, developing new processes and enhancing our tools to support the accelerated growth.

  2. What is one of the biggest challenges the team faces as we continue to grow?

In addition to finding all the new team members we need to support QTS’ development activity, our team is having to learn new ways to stay aligned and communicate at various levels. Creating more effective ways to communicate among a larger team is a new type of challenge. Keeping 100+ individuals consistently aligned on the strategy, the approach, and the goals we are executing on is completely different than how we would manage a team of 20 (the size our team was just a couple years ago).

  3. What is most exciting for the team as we grow quickly?

Our employees are in the unique position to take on promotions and new opportunities that wouldn’t have arisen without the accelerated growth. So many QTSers are stepping up to take on new roles and new challenges that have evolved as we scale. We are constantly finding opportunities where its vital that we adjust our processes for the larger team to function. Having people who offer to leap in and lead us through each of these circumstances has been vital.

  4. What advice would you give to someone looking to join the development team at QTS?

Just do it! Some positions may come with learning curves, but jumping in and starting to contribute even in the smallest ways, can make huge impacts. Ask others how you can help and take initiative over projects.

  5. What are you and the team most excited about going into 2024?
Getting to see the results of our teamwork. We are opening more QTS campuses and watching MEGAWATTS come to life at a rate we’ve never accomplished before!
