As an organization, we are dedicated to creating a more sustainable future. In alignment with this commitment, we integrated a series of environmentally focused efforts into our QTS Freedom standardized building design. The QTS Freedom design allows QTS data centers to increase energy efficiency, conserve water, reduce waste and minimize overall impact.
Energy Efficiency. We have energy efficiency embedded into our standardized building designs through planned green building certifications for accountability, power usage effectiveness monitoring, and a blanking panel program at all sites to increase efficiency in data halls. Each QTS Freedom facility is designed to meet LEED standards and achieve ENERGY STAR Building Certification. These facilities also use ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, LED lighting and energy-efficient cooling. Our data centers employ a series of energy-efficient practices, including switching off hot water and beverage equipment after hours and installing occupancy sensors for lighting and daylight zones.
Conserving Water. The QTS Freedom standard design uses high-efficiency, low-water plumbing fixtures, where possible. The Freedom mechanical design utilizes a split-system cooling solution with indirect air and pumped refrigerant to promote water efficiency. Economization is also utilized when outdoor temperatures are below the return-air temperature to deliver a more sustainable solution.
Reducing Waste. QTS facilities use robust recycling programs for paper, plastics, cartons, metals and glass, minimizing waste and recycling construction waste. QTS is committed to maximizing resource conservation, including waste reduction, recovery and material re-use. We offer waste stream sorting and recycling at our facilities, including a secure and environmentally friendly e-waste disposal program.
Minimizing Impact. QTS applies environmentally sensitive and sustainable design practices, material selection, procurement, and construction methods in all our projects. This includes utilizing FSC-certified wood products, paints without volatile organic compounds (VOCs), adhesives and other products with low VOCs, and recycled or reused materials. QTS also equips each facility with EV charging stations.
