QTS Advances Plans for State-of-the-Art Data Center Campus and Announces $50 Million Community Commitment for Dane County

Oct 30, 2025

Plan strengthens Wisconsin’s role in sustainable digital infrastructure, generating millions of dollars in tax revenue and creating thousands of jobs

QTS will pay for all project energy infrastructure and there will be no cost impact to existing customers as a result

ASHBURN, VA.Oct. 30, 2025 – QTS Data Centers (“QTS”) is advancing plans for a data center campus in Dane County, Wisconsin. With a planned multibillion dollar development and an initial $50 million community commitment for Dane County, including direct investment in DeForest and Vienna, the project represents a long-term pledge to creating jobs, increasing the use of renewable energy, and supporting growth across Dane County.

QTS plans to submit its zoning application to the DeForest Village Board in November. If approved, this project would be a landmark investment in Wisconsin, strengthening Dane County’s economy and supporting long-term growth. It will:

  • Create thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of full-time positions, supporting local suppliers and businesses and partnering with local building trades unions.
  • Generate millions of dollars in tax revenue, creating an opportunity to reduce tax burden for residents.

The proposed campus reflects QTS’s dedication to the community, investing in both digital infrastructure and the people and programs that strengthen Wisconsin. QTS is committed to collaborating with local stakeholders in being a valuable partner to DeForest, Vienna and all of Dane County. Specifically, QTS will:

  • Establish a minimum of $50 million community commitments that will support local initiatives that strengthen education, workforce development, housing and other critical needs across Dane County.
  • Fund scholarships and workforce partnerships with Madison Area Technical College.
  • Develop research partnerships with the University of Wisconsin.
  • Partner with the Wisconsin Technology Council by contributing toward the Wisconsin Frontier Technology Platform – an initiative designed to accelerate the state’s tech ecosystem.
  • Support nonprofit organizations and first responders to enhance community well-being.

Energy and sustainability are central to the approach of QTS. QTS will pay for all project energy infrastructure and there will be no cost impact to existing customers as a result. In addition, the campus will:

  • Enable new renewable energy resources across Wisconsin and lower costs for customers. QTS has announced an agreement in principle to enable renewable energy resources across Wisconsin, lowering the cost for Alliant Energy’s planned renewable facilities. This proposed agreement will be facilitated by the sale of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from approximately 750 megawatts of new renewable energy sources, which will help meet the growing energy needs of Wisconsin and support sustainable growth across the state, all while providing long-term benefits for Alliant Energy customers. More details are available in the announcement.
  • Leverage QTS’s industry-leading, water-free cooling technology that does not consume water for cooling and will not impact water supply in Dane County or the Yahara Watershed. QTS water-free cooling technology saved nearly 1.5 billion gallons of water in 2024 across other sites to efficiently cool customer environments.
  • Preserve 40 acres of wetland habitat to support wildlife and community recreation.
  • Meet LEED standards, pursue Energy Star certification once eligible, and include EV charging stations throughout.

In addition to QTS’s community commitment and investment in renewable energy, QTS will establish a Community Grant Program, working with community leaders and residents to build on the above initiatives and address priority needs across Dane County.

Tag Greason and David Robey, Co-CEOs of QTS, said: “For more than two decades, we’ve built lasting partnerships with the communities where we live, work and raise our families. We’re proud of these relationships guided by our core values at heart: to love each other, serve communities, and connect the world. Together, we’ll continue to listen, support and grow with the people of Wisconsin as trusted neighbors in a shared future. As digital infrastructure becomes essential to every industry – and a pillar of our national security – we’re excited about the opportunity to be a part of the Dane County community.”
