Transforming Waste into Warmth: QTS and WarmteStad

As the backbone of today’s economy, our impact extends beyond simply building data centers. We aim to support people and create real change in the communities we serve. Our partnership with WarmteStad in the Netherlands facilitates the distribution of residual heat from the QTS Groningen Data Center to the community.

WarmteStad provides and develops sustainable heating and cooling from the waste of other companies and redistributes it to residents of the Groningen community. WarmteStad is heating homes, businesses, and more with sustainable heat, making significant contributions to the municipal goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.

“We deliver the residual heat from our data center to WarmteStad, and they upgrade the heat to the right temperature and deliver it to the households. They deliver cold water back to us so we can cool our systems with their excess product. So, we’ve closed the cycle of energy as much as we can,” said Richard Kaak, Vice President of Business Development, QTS.

QTS’s commitment to sustainability is supported by measurable goals designed to enhance lives while minimizing environmental impact, reducing our carbon footprint, and promoting clean energy. We are creating a more sustainable future for everyone through partnerships like this.
