Employee Spotlight: Darrell Busby, VP Information Security

QTS Employee Location: Suwanee

Years with QTS: 6 months

What does a day in your position look like?

Varies day to day, given the role in Information Security. Sometimes it is planning for hardening QTS assets, sometimes it is reacting to threats to QTS, and sometimes it is meeting after meeting. Every day brings new challenges and adventures.

What is your favorite part of working for QTS?

The interaction with the employees. Everyone at QTS is so kind, eager to help, and understanding. The understanding part is coming from Information Security, where we constantly have to be on the lookout for anything, including employee mistakes that compromise the security of QTS. The people of QTS never get angry, or at least, openly express their anger. The culture of QTS is by far my favorite thing about QTS.

Who inspires you most in your chosen field/career?

Andrew Wild. I’ve been in IT for over 30 years, and in IT Security over 20 years. I’ve never encountered anyone who is so well rounded, intelligent, kind and well spoken as Andrew. I’m honored to be working for my boss. I know that sounds like a sycophant thing to say, but I truly mean it. I’ve never worked for anyone I admired more than Andrew.

What passions do you have inside and outside of the office?

Inside the office I strive to be a great coach, mentor, cheerleader and student. In life, I read a lot of books, hike mountains, travel the world, cook, carpentry, golf, fishing and basically anything outside exploring God’s green earth.

What does a perfect day outside of the office look like for you?

Starting the morning with a fresh pot of coffee on an open fire walking out of a tent looking out at panoramic views from the top of any mountain.
